Hero against Communism and Defender of Roman Mass in Medjugorje: On 23 June, the eve of the 44th anniversary of the first false apparitions, Cardinal Ernest Simoni, 97, climbed slowly Medjugorje's rocky “Apparition Hill”. He was accompanied by members of the Cenacolo Community. Cardinal Simoni endured decades of communist persecution in Albania. He recently celebrated the 70 anniversary of his ordination by attending the Mass in the Roman rite at the Gricigliano Seminary.

After the election of Leo XIV, Aldo Maria Valli wanted to believe in the new pope and in the possibility of a change of direction, he admitted on his blog on June 25. Valli was the longtime Vatican correspondent for Italy’s public broadcaster, RAI. But: “The cold shower (or rather, a whole series of cold showers) quickly woke me from that dream in the form of statements fully in line with the Bergoglian disaster and a succession of ‘peace & love’ initiatives, marked by a shallow humanitarianism completely devoid of references to transcendence, sin, conversion, and the salvation of the soul.” On the consistory on Friday and Saturday, he writes: “Under Leo XIV, the Church is not merely avoiding any reversal of course; it is enthusiastically reaffirming the synodal model, transforming it into a permanent method of ecclesial governance.” Valli points to the names of the cardinals (Ryś, Fernández, Brislin, and Grech) chosen to lead the principal sessions. It is, he says, a gathering of …Doliwat
At least 20 Christians were killed in an overnight attack on the village of Kawel in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, central Nigeria, police said Monday. Among the victims were a doctor and five patients. Police said heavily armed attackers opened fire on residents before setting homes ablaze. Security forces responded and exchanged gunfire with the assailants, who fled the area. No arrests have been made. Local officials and witnesses identified the attackers as armed Fulani Muslim herders. The latest attack is part of a series of deadly assaults that have plagued Plateau State in recent years. Several Christian advocacy organizations have argued that the repeated violence in Nigeria's Middle Belt disproportionately affects Christian communities and have called on the Nigerian government to provide greater protection. #newsHrlsergljk

Fr Lawton is a member of the Paulist Fathers and was ordained to the priesthood in 2024. "Clover" is a music minister of the parish.

During the time of the French Revolution, the revolutionaries tried to erase all public evidence of France’s monarchical past. All across the country, hundreds of statues and monuments of kings and royalty were removed or destroyed. In one particularly absurd episode, in October 1793 a Paris mob tied ropes around the 500-year-old statues of the biblical kings of Israel on the facade of the Notre Dame Cathedral, pulled them down, and beheaded them. In Paris alone over 1400 street names were changed (all that had been named for kings or saints). People who shared a name with a monarch or saint changed their name. They changed their children’s names. They changed the names of the chess pieces, to eliminate kings, queens, and bishops. They changed the names of playing cards—no more kings and queens. They even changed the name of the queen bee to the “laying bee.” Of course these zealots look ridiculous to us today, but in their zeal they had come to believe that allowing a statue of a …Doliwat
The president of the German lay organization ZdK, Irme Stetter-Karp, 69, commented on the paper tiger from Rome claiming that laypeople supposedly may not preach during Eucharists. The German Synodal Way had already voted in favor of the proposal in March 2023, with strong support from the bishops. “We therefore expect the German bishops to reaffirm their substantive position to Rome, strengthen their arguments, and under no circumstances read Cardinal Roche’s letter as a cause for discouragement,” she said. For Ruth Fehlker of the Catholic Women’s Association of Germany (kfd) - that only a few days ago called for abortions in Catholic hospitals - the letter demonstrates “how great the gap is between the pastoral realities of many local churches and the directives coming from Rome.” #newsNtnvgtepdv
The superiors of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X published today another Open Letter to Leo XIV and to the Cardinals. The letter is no call to action nor a negotiating proposal but rather another public reaffirmation of the Fraternity's long-standing position. Attached is a 28-page document (English below) with the Catholic faith. This document repeatedly affirms strong papal authority adding that the pope possesses "supreme, full, immediate, and universal jurisdiction". The letter. Most Holy Father, Most Reverend Eminences, On the eve of the Consistory at the end of this month, and just days before the episcopal consecrations scheduled for 1 July in Écône, it seems to us that the time has come for the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X to make a full profession of Catholic Faith, which we wish to place in the hands of Your Holiness and each one of the Cardinals. Today the Church suffers under the pressure of new forces, coming both from within and without, which push her in …Doliwat
Arnie Hammer in Uwe Böll’s Citizen Vigilante. Once again, the guardians of acceptable opinion have trained their fire on Uwe Boll’s Citizen Vigilante. Todd Gilchrist inVariety and others of his stripe denounce the film as morally bankrupt; a crude piece of exploitation that dares to show migrant crime, official leniency, and the rage of ordinary people abandoned by the state. They attack the messenger and the medium rather than confront the reality the film dramatises. We are attacked, yet again, simply for noticing. I wrote last week about the long assault on the working class by the meritocracy; that self-regarding cultural elite who imagine themselves above the consequences of their grand experiments. Nowhere is this intellectual snobbery more evident than in the failure of mass migration into Europe. For decades the authorities have tiptoed around the conduct of certain migrant populations with a racism of low expectations. They created a two-tier justice system that manages mobs …
Italian historian Roberto de Mattei reflected on the announced episcopal consecrations by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX) in an article published on CorrispondenzaRomana.it on June 24. "State of Necessity" Cannot Be Self-Judged For De Mattei, the state of necessity argument is simultaneously "the weakest and the strongest argument". His question is: "Who has the authority to verify the existence of such a state and determine its beginning and end?" He argues that if the FSSPX can independently determine when a state of necessity exists, then it also implicitly claims the authority to determine when that state ends. That would place the FSSPX in a position of judging the Holy See rather than being judged by it. De Mattei acknowledges that Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre was not a speculative theologian or canonist, but a pastor of souls: "The decisive criterion for him was not the assertion of a right proper to the FSSPX, but the spiritual need of the faithful." Can Any Bishop …Doliwat
Do not lose sight of the fact that Roberto de Matteo is an historian, not a theologian. He actually has no training in theology. He is a skillful writer, and often writes about the Catholic Church. But to give even a moment of thought to his representations about his opinion on the actions of the FSSPX would be very foolish.
[Saint HILDEGARD OF BINGEN ~ XI-XII Century AD; born: Bermersheim, Holy Roman Empire/died: Bingen am Rhein, Holy Roman Empire, aged 81; Abbess, Polymath, Writer, Composer, Mystic, Visionary, Philosopher, Medical Writer and Practitioner, Composer of Sacred Monophony, Virgin, Founder, Doctor of the Church] 3 .The tabernacle And I came to a tabernacle, the inside of which was made of the hardest steel. And entering in, I performed works of light where before I had done deeds of darkness. In this tabernacle, therefore, towards the north, I set up a pillar of unpolished iron on which I hung small fans of various feathers moving back and forth. I found manna, and I ate it. Towards the east I built a fortification of square stones, kindling a fire within. Here I drank myrrh-flavoured wine with grape-must. Towards the south I made a tower of square stones on which I hung red shields; in the windows I placed trumpets of ivory. And in the middle of the tower I poured out honey and prepared a …Doliwat

On March 14, a Saturday, for the first time, a woman led a liturgical celebration in place of the “Sunday” Eucharist in the Cathedral of Bozen/Bolzano, Italy. Italian media spoke of "la celebrante" ("the celebrant"). Maja Clara and has been leading such liturgies for about ten years. She works as a journalist at the state press agency. “As a child, I wanted to be a pastor,” she says. The Diocese of Bolzano-Bressanone, which covers the German speaking South Tyrol, is run by Bishop Ivo Muser. In the diocese, about 500 (!) laypeople are entrusted with this ministry, nearly two-thirds are women. The Diocese has 500k Catholics and about 350 priests in 280 parishes. This makes less than 1,5k nominal Catholics per priest. Picture: Maja Clara, AI piture, #newsTaahryrpwd
This has been going on here in the United States for over 30 years. Deacons were never asked to have these services, only women were permitted to do so.
The issue of fulfilling the "Sunday Obligation" was not addressed in this article. Was it reported elsewhere that this liturgy fulfilled that requirement?
