Liturgical Arts Journal: New Church Architecture: St. Jude Catholic Church in Spotsylvania, Virginia

O'Brien and Keane, an architectural firm based in Northern Virginia and Maryland, recently shared with LAJ, news of a new church project they were involved with in Spotsylvania, Virginia:
After years of worshipping in temporary repurposed facilities, including a funeral parlor and motorcycle sales showroom, the parishioners of St. Jude Catholic Church had secured donations needed to build a new church. They challenged O’Brien & Keane to design a structure that was not only immediately recognizable as a Catholic church but also employed the architecture to embody Catholic beliefs. We responded with a traditional design rooted in the Church’s rich legacy of sacred architectural expression. Commanding the highest ground of the site, the façade is inspired by medieval precedents and strives to impart a noble presence. Within, the architectural language remains consistent, and is composed as …

Canada, Pope St. John Paul II and his St. Joseph Prayer

On March 19, we celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The only words that Joseph speaks, and not a direct quote, in the New Testament is in Matthew 1:25: when we are told, "and he named him Jesus." Perhaps this says it all. It's Jesus who should always be in our minds and hearts.
In 1984, Pope St. John Paul II during his
apostolic trip to Canada visited the tomb of Andre Bessette at St. Joseph's Oratory. Bessette had a great devotion to St. Joseph. The pope offered a prayer before the tomb. St. Joseph is the patron saint of Canada and of the universal Church. St. Joseph, pray for us.
This is what the pope said in French before the prayer. Note: Andre Bessette is now a saint. He was canonized on October 17, 2010.
Dear Religious of Holy Cross,
Thank you for your warm welcome. I would have liked to speak with you at greater length, not only about Blessed Brother André, but also about the apostolate of the Fathers and Brothers of Holy Cross in Canada …

Catholic Church in Germany lost more than 500k members, had only 25 priestly ordinations in 2025 – Allah's Willing Executioners

German Bishops’ Conference Februar 23, 2026. Screengrab youtube
The Catholic Church in Germany lost nearly 550,000 members in 2025 and only recorded 25 priestly ordinations nationwide.
The German Bishops’ Conference (DBK) has published
preliminary figures for 2025 across all German dioceses, showing another year of a massive exodus from the Church.
Around 307,000 people left the Catholic Church, while 2,269 joined and 5,443 were readmitted. However, if one factors in the deaths, the Church shrank by 549,636 persons compared to the previous year. This represents a slight decrease from the previous year, when the Church lost around 575,000 members.
Most notably, only 25 priests were consecrated in all German dioceses, excluding religious orders, which are recorded separately.
The number of baptisms has declined once again, with 109,028 recorded in 2025 compared to 116,274 in 2024. The same applies to Catholic weddings, which numbered 19,478 (2024: 22,513). The numbers remained stable …

Leo XIV Appoints Rupnik Enthusiast as Bishop

Leo XIV appointed today two auxiliary bishops in the Archdiocese of Caracas, Venezuela.
Monsignor José Manuel León (born 1966 in Barquisimeto) is a Passionist Father, was ordained to the priesthood on 19 March 1994 and is currently a parish priest.
Pictured Monsignor José Dionisio Gómez Gouveia (born 1966 in La Guaira) is a diocesan priest of Caracas. He has served in multiple parishes, as a prison chaplain, and in seminary formation.
"Beyond Traditions and Rites"
Monsignor León's current parish Preciosísima Sangre is in eastern Caracas, near Petare and a slum area.
His homilies are published on ParroquiaPreciosisimaSangre.wordpress.com. He uses a Francis-style pastoral tone with the buzzwords mercy, welcome, and fraternity.
In a reflection from 8 July 2023, he wrote that Jesus moved beyond a religion sustained “only in traditions,” criticizes a faith reduced to rites, and says it is easy to “wash hands” while failing to extend them “for fraternal embrace.” He also attacks attachment …Àteru

Exploring the Apparitions of St. Joseph
Each apparition carried a message. Each one deepened devotion to the silent saint who protected the Holy Family.
St. Teresa of Ávila’s heavenly provider
In 16th-century Spain, St. Teresa of Ávila faced a crisis. She was trying to establish a new convent but had no money to pay the workers.
That’s when St. Joseph appeared to her. In her autobiography, she writes:

I found myself in desperate need, with no idea how to solve it or pay the laborers. Then St. Joseph – my true father and protector – appeared and assured me that resources would come. I should go ahead and hire the workers. Though I didn’t have a penny, I obeyed. The Lord provided the money in ways that astonished everyone who heard about it (Book of Her Life XXXIII, 12).
This wasn’t St. Joseph’s only visit to St. Teresa. Years earlier, in 1521, during the feast of the Assumption, Teresa experienced an ecstasy so intense she nearly lost consciousness. She describes what happened next:Àteru

Exploring the Apparitions of St. Joseph
Who did St. Joseph appear to? Who has ever seen St. Joseph? There haven't been many apparitions of St. Joseph, but it has happened that the holy patriarch has manifested himself, almost always together with Mary and Jesus.

Thursday, March 19 Luke 2:41 or Matthew 1:16 Romans 4:13 2 Samuel 7:4

2 Samuel 7:4-5a, 12-14a, 16
God said to David, “I will raise up your offspring after you, sprung from your loins, and I will establish his kingdom.”
This is a prefiguration of the coming Messiah, God with us, Emmanuel.
Romans 4:13, 16-18, 22
Grace is God’s inheritance for us.
Matthew 1:16, 18-21, 24a
“Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus.”
When the work is God’s, he clearly informs the one (Joseph) who will be with him (the Lord) in the mission (of the Lord).
Luke 2:41-51a
“Why were you looking for me?”
For parents, it’s normal to look for their child. But Jesus is already beginning to point toward heaven.
The reality of God is that it’s not necessary to look for him, since he is with us.”

Bishop Schneider: Francis' Pontificate Marked Culmination of Doctrinal Relativism

The life of the Church has been marked for decades by a doctrinal confusion, Bishop Athanasius Schneider told the Spanish Youtube channel ‘El Debate’ on March 18.
As the root, he identifies doctrinal relativism, which he links to the modernist movement. It infiltrated the church in the early 1900s and spread gradually, especially using the Second Vatican Council as a kind of catalyst.
Accordign to Bishop Schneider, this tendency has grown over the past sixty years: “Today, especially with the previous pontificate of Pope Francis, we have the culmination of this movement of doctrinal relativism - that is, the idea that truth is not always the same.”
Two Consequences of Relativism
From relativism follows for Schneider the danger of naturalism. This outlook gives primacy to natural, temporal and social issues and reduces the need for supernatural grace.
Another consequence is religious syncretism. If truth is relative and human beings are already fundamentally good, then it becomes easy …Àteru
