Leo XIV replied: “I have not crossed that boundary.” When the Church speaks “in defense of life,” it is “not doing politics, but applying the Gospel to people’s lives.” And: “If this is doing politics, I did it; but I certainly did not intend to meddle in French politics. I simply wanted to teach what the Church really believes.”

Leo XIV invokes Europe’s Christian roots in defence of human rights and migration. Pope Leo XIV offered a sweeping account of European civilisation and its future in a September 28 landmark speech at the Robert Schuman Congress Centre in Metz, France.
