Honduran Bishop Teodoro Gómez Rivera has died at 63 while traveling to Rome to meet Pope Leo XIV during an ad limina visit. The bishop of Choluteca died Monday during a stopover in Madrid. Gómez Rivera had led the diocese since 2023 and was vice president of the Honduran Bishops’ Conference. Bishop Johan Bonny of Antwerp, Belgium, is pressing ahead with his plan to ordain married men in 2028.
