Do not lose sight of the fact that Roberto de Matteo is an historian, not a theologian. He actually has no training in theology. He is a skillful writer, and often writes about the Catholic Church. But to give even a moment of thought to his representations about his opinion on the actions of the FSSPX would be very foolish.
The Vatican has rejected – on paper only – a request from the German Bishops' Conference to permit lay people to preach during the Eucharist by means of an "indult." A June 17 letter, written by Cardinal Arthur Roche, Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship, was published on Dbk.de. The German bishops' proposal sought permission to allow lay employees, in the usual exceptional circumstances, to deliver a "homiletic reflection" following the Gospel during the Eucharist. So unless you go to a no mass, there is no need to check it out. And most of the time the name and picture of the Priest is in our face. So again, no need to read it.
